Stage of mesothelioma cancer

Mesothelioma is a rare form of lung cancer, but the most dangerous because it is deadly and usually occurs at the membrane around the lungs, called the pleura. The main cause of cancer that attacks the lung cells (mesothelium) is exposure to asbestos dust.

In every case of cancer such as mesothelioma, there are several stages of development of diseases that can put a cancer that are in the final stage (stage 4). It would be very difficult to cure if the cancer condition is already at a high stage. Because in general, at this stage the cancer has spread throughout the body and attacks the vital organs.

For the case of mesothelioma itself, there are four stages of cancer spread completely. Here below is an explanation.

Stage I

In mesothelioma stage 1, the lymph nodes have not been in a state of vulnerability. In this stage, cancer affects the pleura on only one side of the chest. Moreover, cancer is not in a state of very severe because it has not spread to  organs and other body tissues. However at this stage is very difficult to know that someone suffer to mesothelioma.
Stage 1 cancer survival rate is approximately 28 months

Stage II

In mesothelioma stage 2, cancer size begins to enlarge and invade the lungs. In fact, the lymph nodes have been affected as well.  In addition, it is likely the cancer has spread to the two sides of the pleura. Although a little difficult, in mesothelioma stage 2 patients usually still able immediately to do treatment with surgery or radiation therapy.
Stage 2 cancer survival rate is approximately 14 months

Stage III

Mesothelioma stage 3 is the most difficult stage to the second, from mesothelioma stage 4 . This mean the cancer has been quite severe and can no longer be done curative therapy. Another solution is palliative. . Because in the  mesothelioma stage 3, the cancer has spread to the diaphragm or peritoneum and lymph nodes.
Stage 3 cancer survival rate is approximately 5 months

Stage IV

Mesothelioma stage 4 is the final part in mesothelioma, because cancer has attacked several other areas through the bloodstream. At this stage, the cancer is not only spread to the chest, but also has spread to all parts far away from the point of origin of the cancer grow. Such as the brain, bone, and liver. For treatmen in this stage, the doctor usually will not do the operation but do palliative care.
Stage 4 cancer survival rate is usually less than 5 months
